The Maiden's Poem
i'm here, i say
i'm here.
he awakens and
she buttons on his breasted suit
and straps the laces of his boots.
he goes out on his search.
i'm here, i'm here.
he scours the sands
making demands
and i am the answer
right here.
he over turns mountains
and under turns oceans
in his quest.
when i'm here and
can attest to the details
of his best
at the end of
the day i listen to
what he has to say.
i untie his shoes
and listen to his blues.
i unbuckle his belt
and feel what he felt
in his unquenched thirst
as he puts all things first
and never notices
i'm here
his last breath comes
and he fights death's doldrums
for the love he never found.
yet i was always around
i close his eyes and
wipe his last tear
lean in close
my lips to his ear, i whisper
again you're gone
and i'm still here. i'm here.

"War Is Not For Women"
the trojan amazon
stood before him
strapped
armed
booted
metal suited
shielded
sword wielded
she returned home
as is
hair matted in blood
she had walked through deaths flood
now here she stood
a woman soldier in boldness
a heart of warmth now
protected in coldness
in the doorway,
he gently took off her armour
not one word was said
many she fought beside were lost or dead
she had mastered not being afraid
her face still wore a warriors wrath
his lips touched hers
for a cleansing kiss bath
he kissed her hairline
behind her ear, to her spine
lingering at the small of her back
the roughness of his unshaven chin on her behind
she began to shiver causing him to quiver
she allowed her pain to part the smallest sliver
he kissed and caressed
not minding the time it would take
to coax her softness awake
and unleash the tears
she kept hidden
and war had forbidden
she allowed him to pick her up
as her hard eyes began to blur and shed
vinegar droplets he placed her on his bed
she curled into a fetal position
sobbing for the authentic tradition
of women who birth babies they tend from their breast
instead of tossing grenades into another woman's
nest
he covered her with a flannel sheet
curled his body around hers
chasing her chills with his body heat
finally she fitfully slept
he guarded her
and inspite of his man-ness he wept
for tomorrow he'd have to dress her
in a three piece suit
hand her a briefcase
and high heel pumps
instead of combat boots.

"Fashionista"
hazmet fashion
is the passion
and the rage
impermeable garments
leap from the vogue page
and struts it stuff from
the runway stage
in an array of hues
from conservative grays to electric blues
with little hazmat doggy hats
and hot pink boots for radioactive cats
and neon flesh tight gloves
for handling dangerous goods
and hazmat bicycle covers for forays in the woods
if you can't beat them, join them
the fashionista will say
the hazmet look of tomorrow will
depend on the
nuclear climate of today
